Booking a photoshoot is exciting, it is an investment that lasts a lifetime and it's important to use that excitement to prepare yourself for your photoshoot. Here are a few of my go to tips for preparing for your upcoming shoot!

Weather

Sometimes we envision what we want our photoshoot to look like and the weather does not always allow that. Mother nature in Northern Ontario is by far the most unpredictable in my opinion, that being said, making sure you are prepared to embrace the weather is highly recommended, when you have a photographer that's willing to embrace mother nature with you it can add what i like to call pizzazz. Especially with couples, hello Notebook scene recreation!! Whether it's rain or snow it's nice to come prepared, so bring a back up outfit or extra socks for the kids, just in case!

Time

When it comes to getting the right lighting your photographer knows what time of days to avoid for over exposed sun to when the sun will set for that perfect golden hour glow. When we set the photoshoot time we will likely be there early to scout some spots or ensure that we let any passersby know we will be shooting in the area out of respect! That being said I encourage everyone to be there about 15 minutes early as well, to get the introductions out of the way and discuss any questions, concerns or ideas before we start shooting. Personally I want to make sure I give you an idea into the vision I have for the photoshoot and if you have any ideas you want to bring to life I can make sure I add it to the memory bank and roster.

Wardrobe

Depending on the time of year and the look you are going for, having a couple different options of outfits before the shoot can help choose which one is going to be best on the day of. Your photographer is going to be your best friend when it comes to this, and we love to be a part of the process! We are always open to giving suggestions or helping find that perfect pair of boots to go with your fit, or figuring out does this scarf match the vibe? Color palettes always help when choosing the right attire, and when in doubt neutrals always look good no matter what time of year! Harsh or bright colours are not discouraged but can alter where the eyes go when showcasing photos.

Inspiration

This is your moment, your shoot, and your memories. I always use the tools that we have to create new inspiration and find old ones as well. Most often people will see photos on social media and that can be used as inspiration. If you bring those photos to the shoot we can make them work into the timeline. Seen a silly family photo you want to recreate, bring that kind of inspiration with you and we will make it unique. Pinterest is another great tool for inspiration and can aid in all of the things stated above. You can find so many fun ideas and poses. The creativity is endless.

Be you

If something does not feel right or the vibe you are looking is not in alignment with what you are envisioning let your photographer know! It is never our intention to overstep or direct you in a way that does not feel authentic, we want everything to be unique to you and strive for a good experience. Your comfort is a top priority. Do you have hobbies that you would like to incorporate into your shoot? let us know and we would be more than happy to try and make things work. Anything to tailor your shoot to be unique to you is what we here at Fern & Frame Photography aim to accomplish.

I hope these 5 tips help you prepare for your next photoshoot, whether it is for yourself, you and your significant other, or the whole fam jam. As a creative we want to make sure you have the best experience and want to have more photos done in the future.
